Facing an Active Threat Abroad

We all know that active threats are all too common in today’s world. Here

are 5 quick tips to keep you safe while you are traveling;

1. Quick research. The trip of a lifetime may sound like a great idea, but

is the general area a safe place to visit? Conduct some quick

research to see if the area you are traveling to is not on a travel

advisory.

2. Safety plan. Have a safety plan prepared ahead of time. Ensure you

have the contact information (phone numbers, email addresses, or

social media handles) for multiple family and friends. You may not be

able to contact the first person on the list. And make sure those

people have your travel itinerary.

3. Be aware of your surroundings. Saty alert and vigilant of your

surroundings. Leave the ear buds out and your phone in your pocket.

Take in the scenery.

4. When you get to your place of stay, take 10 seconds to read the

emergency exit plan. If you are in a hotel, it is right in front of you

when you get off the elevator. Don’t wait for an emergency to figure

out where to go. Be PROACTIVE!!!

5. Report suspicious events or behavior. One of the easiest things you

can do is to report the “out of the ordinary”. Was that backpack left

unattended on purpose or did someone simply forget it? A simple

report to an authority figure can be all it takes to avoid a threat.

BONUS TIP!!!! Enjoy yourself on vacation. Rest, relax, unwind.

Whatever stress at home there is will be there when you get back.

Don’t pay an extra fare to bring it with you.
